A new joint campaign calling for more businesses to pay the real Living Wage has been unveiled today. The advertising campaign has been designed by advertising agency Creature and launched by the Living Wage Foundation across Emc易倍体育鈥檚 Out of Home media space in towns and cities around the UK.
The aim of the campaign is to highlight the important work of听many low paid听鈥渒ey workers鈥 such as cleaners, care workers, and delivery drivers who are working on the front line听during the pandemic听but still not getting the pay they deserve.听We were keen to make sure we evoke empathy with听all the people that have been there for us听-听whilst听highlighting the听harsh听reality that many of these 鈥榢ey workers鈥櫶齠ace听low pay and are struggling to get by.听The听campaign听gives people听the chance to听reflect on the听hard work听of our essential workforce, and听for employers to听commit to becoming a real Living Wage Employer.听Research shows that there are听1.3 million key workers听in the UK who earn below the real Living Wage and are employed in 鈥渋nsecure work鈥澨齱hich is a huge failure.听听

鈥淜ey workers have very literally听kept us all alive in 2020, so it鈥檚 about time we did the same for them. We hope this campaign continues to push the amazing work of the Living Wage Foundation in getting people to realise a hard day's work deserves a fair day鈥檚 pay.鈥听
听The campaign calls for more businesses to join the nearly 7,000 accredited Living Wage听Employers, including over 800 who have signed up since the pandemic听began,听and commit听to听pay all workers a real Living Wage.听The real Living Wage is independently calculated based on听the cost of living. It means workers and their families can meet everyday needs: the weekly shop, a surprise dentist trip, a new school uniform for growing kids.听Earning the real Living Wage is the difference between sitting down to a healthy meal and struggling to put food on the table. Between reading the kids a bedtime story and working late, multiple jobs, each night.听听
听This campaign also falls during the Foundation鈥檚 annual Living Wage Week celebrations (9th-15th November) with the听new听Living Wage rates听due to be announced on Monday 9thNovember.听Both听Creature听and Emc易倍体育 are accredited Living Wage听Employers听committed to paying all their staff 鈥 directly or indirectly employed 鈥 the real Living Wage.听听

鈥淲ith Emc易倍体育 being one of the early adopters of the Living Wage, we have seen first-hand its value and benefit to our people and to us as an employer. We鈥檙e delighted to work with the Living Wage Foundation even more closely this year to help bring this vital, timely campaign to life and use our very public medium to encourage more employers to join.鈥听

鈥淎t a time when many of us are once again looking to key workers keep our country going, we鈥檙e delighted to have launched an advertising campaign with Creature and Emc易倍体育 that captures and celebrates the skilled jobs that cleaners, care workers, security guards and delivery drivers do.听听
There are nearly 7,000 accredited Living Wage Employers who are choosing to go above and beyond the government minimum and do right by workers and families. Despite it being a challenging time for business, we鈥檝e seen over 800 more employers commit to the Living Wage since the start of the pandemic.听听听听
