Bauer Media Outdoor announced the launch of Compass, a new long-term initiative designed to empower and support independent Black-owned businesses in the UK through Out of Home advertising in collaboration with Jamii, the leading discovery platform for Black British brands.
Understanding the challenges that face Black entrepreneurs, with visibility being one of the most vital parts to business success, the scheme will offer free outdoor advertising space to selected businesses and is open to both physical and online Black retailers and service providers. Applications are now open, and the selection process will be overseen by Jamii to help choose eight businesses whose campaigns will run within the first 12 months of the scheme.
Campaigns of the selected businesses will run across Bauer Media Outdoor鈥檚 Adshel Live screens, part of the biggest digital Out of Home network in the UK, starting from August. Emc易倍体育 will also offer free design support to help create the advertisements, while any selected e-commerce brands will also be listed on Jamii鈥檚 marketplace.

Caroline Forbes, Specialist Partner and Fairness Executive Sponsor at Bauer Media Outdoor, said: 鈥As part of our ongoing commitment to be both a Platform for Brands and a Platform for Good, we鈥檙e thrilled to see Emc易倍体育 Compass come to life with the support and guidance of Jamii as our partner. By offering outdoor advertising space across high streets up and down the UK, we hope to create a shop window for products and services that would often be unseen outside of the Black community and thus help boost the Black pound in a meaningful and sustainable way.鈥
Khalia Ismain, Founder of Jamii, said: "We鈥檙e so excited to be working with Bauer Media Outdoor on this initiative to amplify the stories of Black creators. We鈥檝e long been championing the incredible makers within the community because their talents deserve greater recognition. When we break down the obstacles faced by Black makers, it sows the seeds for more talent to rise and seize opportunities. This is a huge opportunity for both of us to tell the stories of makers from the community and connect them to anyone and everyone who needs their ideas, craftsmanship and ingenuity in their lives."
Bauer Media Outdoor previously supported local businesses with free Out of Home advertising during the pandemic through its #BusinessAsUnusual scheme and recently also launched a new programme Clear Start, to help accelerate the growth of start-ups in the UK.
Jamii was established in 2016 to promote the offering of Black makers and creators to wider audiences and currently lists over 250 small Black-owned British businesses.
Black-owned business owners can apply to the Compass scheme here. Applications close on 18 July 2021.
